The establishment of the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) education program at UIN Raden Mas
Said Surakarta is grounded in several key factors. First, the rapid pace of globalization has increased the demand for learning
Indonesian among foreign speakers, whether for academic, business, or social purposes. UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, as
a leading state Islamic university located in Surakarta, a city known as a cultural hub of Java, holds a unique appeal for foreign
learners interested in studying Indonesian language and culture.
The BIPA program's establishment is also part of a cultural
diplomacy effort, where the university plays a role in introducing Indonesia to the international community through language
and cultural education. Additionally, the BIPA program is expected to serve as a platform for developing high-quality
academic programs and fostering international collaboration, aligning with the university's vision of becoming a center of
excellence in education and research. Furthermore, the program is designed to meet local and regional needs for teaching
Indonesian as a second or foreign language, particularly in Southeast and South Asia. Thus, the establishment of BIPA at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta aims to facilitate Indonesian language learning for foreign speakers while strengthening the
university's role in promoting Indonesian language and culture on the global stage.
The curriculum of the BIPA program at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta is designed for a study period of 1.5 (one and a half) years or 3 (three) semesters. The study period takes place at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, with the aim of deepening Indonesian language skills, understanding the diverse Indonesian culture, and gaining insights into the Islamic practices of the majority Muslim population in Indonesia.
In terms of content, this curriculum consists of three main components: (1) understanding of Indonesian language and language skills, (2) understanding of Indonesia's diverse culture, and (3) understanding of the Indonesian Muslim community.
